Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are currently in Haiti building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Garth and Trisha have been part of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project since 2008 and plan to work with the Carters every year.
Garth says, “We’re in it forever — for as long as they want us. We’ve even offered that, in 40 years, if the Carters no longer want to do it and Habitat wants to keep the Carter Work Project going and they need somebody, we’re throwing our hat in the ring.”
The singers get no special treatment in Haiti -- they work alongside other volunteers, ride the bus to the sites and take turns dishing out meals. The current project is rebuilding houses destroyed in the 2010 earthquake.
